Why Is My Shopify Store Not Getting Sales? (Fix It in 2026)

Let's be blunt: if your Shopify store is not getting sales, it's almost never bad luck. It's one of five fixable problems. Most store owners guess — they change the theme colour, add another app, boost a post — and nothing moves. This is the order we actually diagnose it in when we take over an account.

First: do you have a traffic problem or a conversion problem?

These need opposite fixes, so never guess. Open your Shopify analytics and look at sessions and conversion rate:

  • Under ~200 sessions/day and few sales → a traffic problem. Not enough of the right people are seeing your store.
  • Hundreds of sessions but conversion under ~1% → a conversion problem. People are arriving and leaving. Fixing traffic here just burns more money.

A healthy Pakistani ecommerce store usually converts around 1–2.5%. Below 1% with real traffic means the store — not the ads — is the leak.

1. Your store doesn't earn trust in 5 seconds

This is the number one killer in Pakistan, because buyers are paying (or committing to pay) a brand they've never heard of. If the store looks like a template with stock photos, they bounce. Fix the trust signals:

  • Real product photos — not supplier images every other store also uses.
  • Visible reviews with photos. Even 15 real ones change everything.
  • A working WhatsApp number and a real contact page.
  • Clear delivery time, return policy, and — for COD — a confirmation promise.

2. Your offer isn't compelling — the price is

"Compelling offer" doesn't mean cheap. It means the value is obvious the moment they land. Weak offers look like a product and a price. Strong offers stack a reason to buy now: free or flat-rate delivery, a bundle, a limited quantity, a genuine discount with a deadline. If a visitor can't tell why they should buy today, they won't.

3. You're buying the wrong traffic

If you're running ads and still not selling, the traffic quality is often the problem. Boosting posts sends you cheap clicks from people who like content — not people who buy. Interest-stacked, lookalike-heavy targeting on a real objective (Sales, not Engagement) sends buyers. If your ads optimise for the wrong event, Meta will happily bring you thousands of window-shoppers.

4. Your checkout leaks — especially on COD

Watch your add-to-cart → checkout → purchase drop-off in Shopify. Big drops usually mean surprise shipping costs, a slow store, too many form fields, or no trusted payment/COD option. In Pakistan, offering COD but hiding it, or not confirming orders, quietly kills conversion and inflates returns later.

5. You're flying blind — tracking is broken

If your Meta Pixel, Conversions API or GA4 aren't firing correctly, you can't see which products, ads or pages actually sell — so every decision is a guess. Fixing tracking is unglamorous and it's usually the single highest-ROI thing we do in the first week of a new account.

The Pakistan-specific tax: COD and RTO

Even when the store sells, refused COD orders (return-to-origin) quietly eat the profit. A store can look like it's "getting sales" and still lose money once 30–40% of orders come back. Order confirmation, customer screening and clean data bring that down — we broke the playbook down in how to reduce RTO in Pakistan.

Do this today

  • Check sessions vs conversion rate — decide: traffic or conversion.
  • Open your own store on mobile like a first-time buyer. Where do you hesitate?
  • Confirm your Pixel/CAPI is tracking purchases.
  • Fix trust and offer before you spend another rupee on ads.

FAQ

How many visitors before I should expect a sale? At a ~1.5% conversion rate you'd expect roughly 1 sale per 65–70 visitors. If you're well past that with zero sales, it's a store/offer problem, not variance.

Should I run ads if I'm getting no sales? Not yet. Ads amplify whatever your store already does. Fix trust, offer and tracking first, or you'll just pay to send more people to a leaking bucket.

Is a good ROAS enough to know I'm profitable? No — a 4x ROAS can still lose money. Check your break-even with our free ROAS calculator.
